This is who we are dealing with…

This guy was a police officer. It sounded like his wife said he was the city mayor, not sure if that is correct. However, the point here is that this guy in the car is 100% certain that he is right and that this guy filming is breaking the law.

Absolutely convinced. You can bet that when he is standing around with friends and neighbors at a meeting or a backyard barbecue or church picnic, he will start talking about this event and he will tell everybody, as a former cop, that this guy filming was breaking the law.

Just like we have district trustees who say, “I’ve served on many boards,” and yet refuses to abide by Open Meeting Laws or Open Records Laws or any number of other laws.

They pat themselves on the back and talk authoritatively, and people just believe them. Until they learn that they are 100% wrong. But by then, the damage could be done. How many thousands of dollars is it going to cost the district before people say, “hang on… I think these people do not know what they are doing and have lied to us.”

This guy in the car, back when he was a cop, likely violated peoples rights, 100% certain that he knew the law. But he doesn’t. He is wrong.

Ignorance of the law is no excuse for breaking it. It is the duty of the trustees to know and understand and follow the laws. Currently, they look like this guy driving the car. Convinced they are correct. Telling everybody else they are correct. Violating the laws and individual rights. And just doubling down.
