As the biggest issues we are having with this district are with the Board, and its increasing powers which never seems to quenched, I thought I’d share some really basic rules that this Board is ignoring, but perhaps you can get yours to listen.
Our Board simply changes the Bylaws any time it wishes. Anybody NOT on this road district might be raising an eyebrow and thinking, “hang on… the board can’t just change the rules that were put in place for them to follow.” And I think you may now see some of the issues we have here. Only the members of the district can change the bylaws. It would appear the only recourse we have to the Board overstepping their bounds is to sue them. That suit is on the list.
Something to note is the bylaws are meant to constrain the Board, not the members. The Board answers to the members, not the other way around. If more people understood that the power is actually with the members and the members are to control the board, and not the other way around, I think we would have a different class of people volunteering for the position.
I like this next one because it clarifies that whether you FEEL guilty or not, doesn’t change the fact. You broke the law.
This video shows that secret meetings are an issue everywhere. And while I’m currently awaiting the decision as to whether our Open Meetings Commission is going to hold this Board accountable, I’m also researching whether I can sue them myself. Law states I can, but court opinions seem to vary.
