The God Complex
This video is spot on. Again, this pertains to HOAs, and yet is still so closely related to a road/rogue district.
My notes-Self-serving
“They jump into that position because they want the power. They want the control. They want to have the community bend to their will.”
“The best leaders are the ones who do not want to step into that position.”
The people who want the position, and will say and do anything to get it, and then say and do anything to bring others on board… the ones who run for office from another state, knowing nothing about us or our needs or our values, but who were groomed by another board member. The ones who talk about getting grants, which anybody who actually lived here knew was just silly talk.
The ones who talk about serving their country with honor, but who refuse to act honorably concerning the actions of the board nor in response to the numerous members who demand accountability.
Those are the tyrants.
The ones who did not really want the position and who only stepped into the ring to try to serve the need of the district, and not their own… the ones who were voted out illegally… those are the ones we should want in the position.
“Self-serving”… that would be improving a road where you live. Widening a road that does not require widening. Being told in a public forum, by the county auditor that you are imposing a special assessment. A special assessment is not legal, and a member has no choice but to take you to court and you do everything in your power, honorable or not, to keep the case from being heard.
EVERY SINGLE THING YOU CAN.
That’s self-serving. That’s without honor. That’s crooked. That’s corrupt.
“Failure to read those governing documents.”
Or in our case, the rewriting of those documents (by-laws) in secret meetings, to say anything you want at any time. It matters not that the documents were written to provide a basic code of conduct. Whatever conduct they wish to have… that’s what the bylaws will now say.
Being targeted… like having your road completely destroyed… for no reason other than retaliation for the audacity to state you want out of this road district.
On the idea of calling special meetings and recalling officers. That’s something other members can move on if they care to. You do have the right to demand a meeting and look at real records, and demand answers. That’s something you can do. We will not be wasting time in that. For us, we are done playing the diplomacy game.
We want out and we want real accountability. And that’s lawsuits.
Something else the members should really give some thought to, especially the ones in the first 1/2 mile of the district, is to withdraw and start your own district. You guys are getting screwed as bad as we are. Paying an illegal special assessments of $500 a year… to drive a half mile. You can start another district and actually follow the laws and rather than all your money going to the unlawful improvement of the back 1/2 mile of road… you can maintain just the area you travel.
You’d still be better off financially. Even with ALL those other people from the back driving your section of road, and you not getting any money from them (because they will continue to improve the road in front of their properties), you are still better off.
When we withdraw, which is our legal right and is being reviewed by the attorney general, we will repair and maintain our road. The road we invested our own money and time in for 9 years, and which was unlawfully destroyed by the members of the board, and who will be held responsible personally, because they acted unlawfully, in a meeting that had no notice, and therefore can be held personally liable.
“The Lawyer gets involved.” These guys believe that is a good thing. We thought that too. We were relieved when the corrupt board finally hired a lawyer, even though they still did so unlawfully, we thought it would be a good thing.
However they hired a shyster that was just as corrupt as they were. A lawyer who filed frivolous motion after frivolous motion and doing every thing he could to keep the case from being heard and the truth from coming out.
I had an eye-roll when they talked about the right to request and receive the records. Yeah… you do have the legal right to see ALL the records of a road district… however, when your district is as corrupt as this one is, you have to fight to get them. Another lawsuit, just to see the records. Just what are these people hiding?
